Back in about 1981, I met Mac McMahon in a Santa Monica gaming shop. With great patience and intelligence he helped me play test what became my own system, evolved from the great Steve Perrin/Chaosium Runequest and Steve Jackson Fantasy Trip (The basis for GURPS) RPG systems. Pretty sure I could not have done it without Macs faithful indulgence. In the last ten years Mac has refined his own system and created tables and lists that the rules mongers among you will drool over, especially if you drool or drip noxious and foul ichor normally. Most of these rules and lists were designed for Macs ongoing H. P. Lovecraft Dreamlands campaign and Pendragon, but can be used for any setting where they are not anachronistic, There are several instances where they could be used as an outline for your own campaign or scenario. Please enjoy them and send an email to Mac at - galacark at yahoo.com - and let him know you enjoyed them.

Ia! Ia! Fellow Gamers! Ia!
Having found the Dreamlands my cuppa tea, I decided over the years to run it as a kind of D&D meets Nyarlathotep,
I am not, repeat not, a fan of D&D. However, while I have never run a D&D game, I have played in a few that I did enjoy. Maybe that's cuz enjoying a game has actually more to do with the storytelling ability of the GM than the system he's using. Also, I really like D&D monsters. Rust monsters! Bugbears! Gnolls! Beholders! Gelatinous Cubes! Wowser!!! (Bet you didn't think an 67-going-on-68-year-old-fart could gush like that.) On the other tentacle, I'm not a die-hard RQ fanatic either. Sorry, Steve, but I think strike ranks suck. And I don't even want to try to understand Greg's magic system. I guess I'm more of a Basic Roleplaying sorta guy.

I read Lovecraft's stuff back before CoC came out and decided that was the game for me. However, I soon learned that most gamers actually don't like the idea of their character's dying. (Imagine that!) So what was needed, I realized, was a "kinder, gentler" CoC. Then came the Dreamlands! A "kinder, gentler" CoC setting, with fantasy sword-and-sorcery lands roughly European, Arabian, Ancient Egyptian, African, and Southeast Asian.
However, I eventually came to feel that the Dreamlands which Lovecraft and Chaosium presented me with wasn't completely fleshed out. So I've added the eight Realms of Dream, Time Nexi, and sundry other things, plus my own character sheets, and my own magic system.
So, if you are at all interested in my blatherings, or have any questions, suggestions or corrections welcome aboard. The sky galleon Lung Song sets sail for the cloud city Serranian within the hour! Yours in service to great Cthulhu,
